Note: Sandwick Cemetery is the official name for St. Andrew's Cemetery.
St. Andrew’s cemetery is located behind St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and is one of the oldest active cemeteries on Vancouver Island.
Cliffe, Dingwall, Harmston, Piercy and Willemar to name a few of the names you’ll recognize while wandering the peaceful serenity of the cemetery grounds. Many street names in Courtenay are dedicated to the first settlers of the Comox Valley because of their historical contribution.
Besides the early pioneers, several Common Wealth War Commission graves are found here honouring soldiers who lost their lives fighting in the First and Second World Wars.
Another feature adding to the cemetery's charm is its natural setting which includes an abundance of garry oaks which are an endangered and protected tree on Vancouver Island.
