Blue Christmas: A Service of Comfort and Hope

The Holiday Season is not always a happy time for everyone. Grief, sadness, disappointment, and at times despair, are realities that many people experience during this time of year. These feelings are magnified with songs, movies, and advertisements which try to convince us that this is the "happiest" time of year. A Blue Christmas service, held on the darkest night of the year, seeks to hold space honour and create room for the grief that many in our community might be experience.

The service will be accompanied by the Comox Valley Threshold Choir who seek to bring the comfort of song to those at the thresholds of life. Their songs are selected to bring serenity and comfort to people whatever their personal spiritual path. They sing tenderly and lovingly in groups of three or four at the bedsides of those who are grieving, ill or dying. They offer to gently enter into someone’s life, to share their music and hearts, and then to softly take their leave. The Comox Valley Threshold Choir volunteer their services for other events such as memorial services and there is no charge for their offering.
