NOTE:  Pg #s refer to the BAS

The ruler of this world shall now be cast out; and when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself.     ~John 12.31, 32

Processional Hymn: # 424 Sing Praise to God

Sing praise to God on mountain tops
and in the earth’s lowest places,
from blue lagoon to polar waste,
from ocean to oasis,
No random rock produced this world,
but God’s own will and wonder.
Thus hills rejoice and valleys sing
and clouds concur with thunder.

Sing praise to God where grasses grow
and flowers display their beauty,
where nature weaves her myriad web
through love as much as duty.
The seasons in their cycle speak
of earth’s complete provision.
Let nothing mock inherent good,
nor treat it with derision.

Sing praise to God where fishes swim,
and birds fly in formation,
where animals of every kind
diversify creation.
All life that find its home on earth,
is meant to be respected.
Let nothing threaten, for base ends,
What God through grace perfected.

Sing praise to God where human-kind
its majesty embraces,
where different races, creed and tongues,
distinguish different faces.
God’s image in each child of earth
shall never pale or perish.
So treat with love each human soul,
and thus God's goodness cherish.

Welcome & Acknowledgment of Land

Call to Worship: The Venite: (recited antiphonally)
Come, let us sing to the Lord; *
let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God, *
and a great king above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth, *
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his for he made it, *
and his hands have moulded the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, *
and kneel before the Lord our maker.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice! Amen
(We prepare our hearts for worship in silence)

Gradual Hymn: #592 Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life  (vs 1-3)

Where cross the crowded ways of life,
where cries of tribe and race resound,
amide the noise of selfish strife,
O Chris, your word of love is found.

In haunts of wretchedness and need,
on shadowed thresholds dark with fears,
from paths where hide the lures of greed,
we catch the vision of your tears.

From childhood's wounded helplessness,
from men and women's grief and toil,
from famished souls, from sorrow's stress,
your heart has never known recoil.

The Gospel:    MARK 3:20-35

Gradual Hymn: #592 Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life  (vs 4-6)

The cup of water given for you
still holds the freshness of your grace;
yet long these multitudes to view
the strong compassion of your face.

O Jesus, from the mountainside,
make haste to heal these hearts of pain;
among these restless throngs abide;
O tread the city's streets again;

Till all the world shall learn your love,
and follow where your feet have trod;
till glorious from your heaven above
shall come the city of our God.

Offertory Hymn: #531 You who Dwell in the Shelter of the Lord

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
who abide in his shadow for life,
say to the lord, "my refuge,
my rock in whom i trust."

Refrain
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.

Snares of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear;
under his wings your refuge,
his faithfulness your shield.
Refrain

You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.
Refrain

For to His angels He's given a command,
to guard you in all of your ways,
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
Refrain

The Blessing

Closing Hymn:  MV#172  God Says
God says, “Be still so you may hear the words
I whisper in your ear. If you will listen,
you will know I’m with you always where you go.”

God says, “Look up and see the prize I’ve placed here
right before your eyes. Find beauty in the things of
earth, a cause for wonder and rebirth.”

God says, “Come here! I need your voice. Please teach my
people to rejoice. In who you are, in what you do,
your life will show my love for you.”

God says, “Reach out!  The world’s in need and wants a
word, a song, a deed. I send you forth to speak, to
sing, to act for Christ in everything.”
